Key IVR have introduced Smart Meter payments to allow customers of energy suppliers to top-up their account from the meter display or via SMS, along with helpful account balance text alerts, E.g. When a meter is running low or if there is an issue on the account.
The method uses the existing GSM wireless technology within the smart meters, integrating with the energy supplier’s platform to link the customer’s details and meter information together. Once a customer has saved their preferred payment card details against their account, the information is tokenised and held securely against the account for future use.
This will allow the instant top-up of the account balance, all protected by PCI-DSS level 1 technology, the highest level of payment security. Additionally, if the utility provider were to experience a data breach, no sensitive card details would be exposed, dramatically reducing the risk and impact placed on their customers.
