3D Secure is a way of preventing credit card fraud and chargebacks when making payments online. When you’re processing payments, what happens is you’ll put your card details in, and your bank’s box might pop up like the one on the screen. You’ll be asked to put in either your password, which might the sixth, seventh or eighth character of your password to identify yourself, or you might also get a text message from your bank with an authorization code that you have to put in.
Transactions that have gone through this process are classed as as secure as chip-and-PIN transactions as only you should know these pieces of information. This means once the payment has been processed, your payment cannot be charged back.
