3D Secure (Three-Domain Secure) is an online payment security protocol designed to reduce fraud and provide an additional layer of protection for cardholders and merchants during online transactions. It was initially developed by Visa, under the name Verified by Visa, and has since been adopted by other card networks like Mastercard (as Mastercard SecureCode) and American Express (as American Express SafeKey).
