The Senior Account Manager has a range of responsibilities, from overseeing a portion of Key IVR’s clients, to training and managing a team of sales representatives.
Sophie Chan’s role is challenging and diverse, but her success has led her to obtain a portfolio of high profile clients that continues to grow year-on-year.
- When did you start working at Key IVR?
It was October 2016. I had over 10 years of experience in sales orientated jobs and had heard of some positions going that I knew I could immerse myself into. I was also living in Manchester at the time and working at Key IVR would mean being much closer to my family. - What does your role involve?
As Senior Account Manager, I’m responsible for a large portion of our clients, including Marie Curie, Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth, Marston Holdings and Affinity Water; just to name a few. I acquire a split of inbound and outbound inquiries, closing big deals that are of great benefit to Key IVR. I also manage a team of Sales Representatives that are continuously improving and developing on their skills. - What is your favourite part about working for Key IVR?
It’s definitely the buzz of success. Everyone here is really supportive, there’s no egos and the team are always willing each other to succeed. It’s rare to find yourself in such a positive environment.
- What have you gained from working at Key IVR?
I’ve learnt a lot about myself and how to react in certain situations, which has definitely allowed me to progress within my role. I’ve also gained technical knowledge and a keen interest in a subject that I never thought I’d have. - What’s a standard day at Key IVR like for you?
Every day is busy and challenging. Tasks involve contacting existing customers and potential clients, attending site visits, internal project meetings, assisting the operations department with deployments, maintaining a quality team etc. It’s very varied, but there definitely isn’t a “standard day”. - What do you like to do on your days off?
I like going on walks with my family, I have a little boy and a dog so that makes it a lot more enjoyable and fun whenever we visit different places. Movie nights are always good on a Saturday too, sitting down with snacks and chilling out with the family. - Before working at Key IVR, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
My first ever office job was awful. I had to ring business owners and pitch to them why it would be a benefit to sell their business to us. It was very awkward and uncomfortable.
- What is the best vacation you’ve ever been on?
My dad and step mum took us to South Africa when I was 12, that was pretty cool. We went to Kruger National Park and got chased by a bull elephant. It was quite scary but it only made it more memorable. - Describe what you were like at age 10?
Devil child, centre of attention and always the star in the play. I was a little madam and I always knew what I wanted. I’d hope that’s where my passion and drive comes from. I think my son, Harrison, has definitely followed in my footsteps. - If you could do any other job for one day, what would it be?
I’d love to be in London’s West End. Queen and Chicago are major influences on why. - Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us?
Not to toot my own horn, but I can sing really well. Some of us from Key IVR will occasionally go out and do Karaoke, and people will always say I sound amazing. - What music do you like to listen to?
I like just about anything, apart from any fast, loud, angry music. I’m mainly into the charts. - Where is your favourite place to eat?
Sunny Bank Gardens. They do a fantastic roast dinner on a Sunday and the cherry cheesecake ice-cream is so nice!
